Martín Farach-Colton received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 1991. After completing his postdoc at the DIMACS, Farach-Colton went on to join faculty of Rutgers. While at Rutgers, he joined Google in its early years and then founded the company Tokutek. He is the Leonard J. Shustek Professor of Computer Science and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at New York University.
Farach-Colton’s research focuses on pattern matching, data compression, and data structures, particularly with applications to storage systems. Tokutek, a performance database company that delivers Big Data capabilities to leading open source data management platforms, was acquired by Percona in 2015. In addition to its many commercial deployments, TokuDB, the Tokutek storage engine, serves as the basis for the award winning file system, BetrFS.
Farach-Colton is a Fellow of AAAS, ACM, IEEE and SIAM. He is a Member of the Argentina National Academy of Sciences.
